What is FIRST®?

“Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the future through a suite of welcoming, team-based robotics programs for ages 5-18 (K-12). Thrilling, sports-like challenges build self-confidence and collaborative problem-solving skills and have a proven and lasting impact on STEM learning and interest.” More Than Robots® section, FIRST official website.

What is FTC?

Through FIRST® Tech Challenge, students learn valuable skills by participating in season-specific challenges using robots that they have created with their teammates. Teams fabricate robots from a mixture of custom-made and store-bought parts, then program the robots to complete a combination of automatic and driver-controlled tasks (partly paraphrased from the FIRST® Tech Challenge official website). More information can be found here.

This year's season is called DECODE™. For a concise explanation, please refer to FTC Team 25650 ONE SMALL STEP for an Axolotl's amazing one-pager here.
